When lockdown came into force in March 2020, my life changed drastically as the human world around me shut down piece by piece. But I noticed the opposite effect in my plants.
Spring was coming and with more force than ever before, my seeds turned into little seedlings, and further on still to large plants in my window sill and garden.
The natural world had always seemed like the slower, calmed one for me. Now, it was the only thing that appeared alive and changing.
In the Bible, vegetation was created on the third day. And as my universe had shrunk to the size of my home, it seemed to me as if I, too, was creating a new world through the seeds that I sowed and plants that I nurtured.
The Third Day is a celebration of plants, their life cycle and the role they have played in my life during lockdown.
